Navy Region Hawaii Collects Over 400 Pounds of Food for DON Summer Food Drive

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii — Commander, Navy Region Hawaii (CNRH) wrapped up its month-long Summer Food Drive on Sept. 30, spearheading the collection of over 400 pounds of canned goods and other pantry items for a local food bank.

The food drive was part of the Department of the Navy’s broader Summer Food Drive campaign, launched in support of the Nation’s 250th Anniversary and aimed at helping alleviate food insecurity through voluntary donations and community service.

Active-duty Sailors and civilian staff working at various commands at Pearl Harbor filled dozens of collection boxes with donated shelf-stable items like canned proteins, rice, vegetables, soups and other pantry essentials. Donated goods were collected from Sept. 1 through Sept. 29.

The food collection drive underscored the Navy’s commitment to serving the local community.

"Service to country and service to community go hand in hand," said Rear Adm. Rich Jarrett, Navy Region Hawaii commander. "This campaign was a tangible way for our workforce to embody the values of selfless service and give back to our local ohana. The generosity displayed by our team over the past month has been truly inspiring."

On Sept. 30, CNRH volunteers loaded and transported the boxes of donated provisions to the Hawaii Foodbank warehouse on Oahu. The Hawaii Foodbank distributes millions of pounds of food annually to support underserved families across Oahu and neighboring islands.

The successful campaign reflected the spirit of service that extends beyond the waterfront and into the community. Through their contributions, Navy Region Hawaii Sailors and civilians demonstrated a shared commitment to supporting Hawaii families and strengthening ties with the community.
